Press Release: xStocks Surpasses $1 Billion AUM as Tokenized Equities Adoption Accelerates Globally | Featured Image by FF News

The tokenized equities framework xStocks, developed by Payward, has surpassed $1 billion in assets under management (AUM), signaling a major shift in how global financial assets are held and traded. For fintech professionals, this milestone demonstrates that the migration of traditional capital markets to onchain infrastructure is moving beyond experimental phases into a scalable, high-volume reality.

What was announced

As of October 27, 2026, xStocks reached the $1 billion AUM mark, a figure that has more than quadrupled since February 2026, when it stood at approximately $225 million. The framework now supports more than 1,500 tokenized representations of global stocks, ETFs, and IPOs. These assets span major markets including the U.S., UK, European Union, and Hong Kong. Despite being currently unavailable to investors in the U.S. and UK, the platform has seen significant international demand, particularly in regions where fragmented infrastructure and limited trading hours have historically hindered access to Western capital markets.

The growth of the ecosystem is supported by several key performance indicators. Cumulative transaction volume has exceeded $45 billion, and the platform currently serves more than 550,000 holders globally. Furthermore, xStocks has seen more than $100 million deployed across decentralized finance (DeFi) protocols, where users can utilize these 1:1-backed assets to earn yield or as collateral for borrowing. Since its initial launch in June 2025 on the Solana blockchain with just 60 assets, the framework has expanded to support more than 10 different blockchains and hundreds of partners, including centralized exchanges and consumer applications.

The framework functions as a common infrastructure layer, providing fully collateralized representations of publicly traded assets. Payward is also actively working with traditional market infrastructure providers, such as Nasdaq and the London Stock Exchange, to modernize the underlying systems that support global capital markets.

"A billion dollars is a milestone on the path to something much larger. The opportunity ahead is measured in the trillions as entire capital markets move onchain and tokenization extends to every kind of asset,"

Val Gui, General Manager of xStocks

The companies involved

xStocks is a specialized tokenized equities framework designed to bring real-world assets (RWA) into the digital ecosystem. It was developed by Payward, a major player in the digital asset space that has been a frequent subject of industry analysis. Payward, which operates the website payward.com, has established itself as a bridge between traditional finance and onchain ecosystems, recently expanding its reach through strategic acquisitions and regulatory approvals in various jurisdictions.

The framework’s integration with traditional finance involves some of the world’s most established market operators. This includes Nasdaq, a leading global provider of trading, exchange technology, and public company services, and the London Stock Exchange, which is part of the broader London Stock Exchange Group. These institutions represent the bedrock of traditional equity markets, and their involvement in modernizing infrastructure alongside Payward highlights the ongoing convergence of legacy financial systems and blockchain technology. The scale of these entities is reflected in their market presence, with Nasdaq and the London Stock Exchange Group being central to the global flow of capital.

What FF News has reported before

FF News has closely followed Payward’s aggressive expansion into broader financial services. On October 14, 2026, we reported that Payward to Acquire Saldo Bank: A Major Leap for Global Financial Infrastructure, a move intended to integrate banking services across Europe. This was followed by news on October 26, 2026, that Payward Secures In-Principle Approval for Digital Asset Operations in Kazakhstan, further solidifying its regulatory footprint.

Simultaneously, traditional exchanges have been pivoting toward digital assets. On October 28, 2026, we covered how Nasdaq Eqlipse Digital: Bridging Mainstream and Tokenized Markets with New Infrastructure is aiming to connect these two worlds. Additionally, on October 21, 2026, reports surfaced that Options Technology Expands Market Data Coverage Across All Nasdaq Options Exchanges, highlighting the increasing demand for sophisticated data in digital-adjacent markets.

What this means

The $1 billion milestone for xStocks is a clear indicator that tokenized real-world assets (RWA) are no longer a niche DeFi experiment. By bypassing the "fragmented infrastructure" of traditional brokerage, tokenization is effectively creating a 24/7 global liquidity pool for equities. This puts significant pressure on traditional regional brokers and legacy clearing houses, which operate on restricted hours and localized rails. The fact that this growth occurred while excluding U.S. and UK investors suggests a massive, untapped appetite for Western equities in emerging markets. The industry must now grapple with the reality that the primary distribution channel for global stocks may soon shift from traditional exchanges to interoperable onchain protocols.
