Bitget has launched rToken Stock Transfer, allowing users to migrate US-listed stocks and ETFs from traditional brokerage accounts into its ecosystem as tokenized assets. For fintech professionals, this represents a significant bridge between legacy equities and on-chain liquidity, enabling traditional holdings to be utilized for trading, lending, and yield within a digital asset framework.

What was announced

The new rToken Stock Transfer feature supports more than 3,000 US-listed assets, providing a mechanism for investors to convert traditional equity holdings into tokenized versions known as rTokens. The process is designed as a two-step "Free of Payment" (FOP) transfer. Users first initiate the transfer from their external brokerage to a designated Alpaca omnibus account managed for Bitget. Once the shares are received, Bitget’s In-Kind Tokenization Network (ITN) automatically converts the securities into rTokens, which are then credited to the user’s spot account.

While transfers into the platform are free of charge, Bitget has established an estimated processing time of approximately 10 business days. Conversely, transfers out of the ecosystem will incur a fee. Once tokenized, these assets can be integrated into various financial activities, including spot trading, margin functions, and borrowing and lending protocols, depending on specific asset eligibility and terms. This initiative is an extension of Bitget’s broader Real-World Asset (RWA) strategy, facilitated through its "Reality" issuance platform. As of July 6, the rToken ecosystem had already reached approximately US$114 million in assets under management, with cumulative transactions exceeding two million.

To incentivize adoption, Bitget is launching a $1 million airdrop campaign featuring SpaceX stock tokens (rSPCX). Rewards are tiered based on transfer volume: a $5,000 transfer qualifies for $200 in rSPCX, while a $50,000 transfer yields $2,000 in rSPCX plus trading fee rebate vouchers. These rewards are distributed on a first-come, first-served basis to eligible users who initiate qualifying transfers during the launch period.

"Tokenization has already made traditional assets more accessible, but access is only part of the equation. The next step is making those assets more useful, giving people greater flexibility in how they manage and deploy their capital. With rToken Stock Transfer, we're making it easier for users to bring their existing stock holdings into Bitget, where eligible assets can eventually serve a wider range of purposes, including as collateral for other trading activities. That's the real potential of RWA within our Universal Exchange: allowing assets to move more freely and capital to work more efficiently."

The companies involved

Bitget identifies as the world’s largest Universal Exchange (UEX), a position it has solidified through a rapid expansion of its product suite beyond simple cryptocurrency trading. The company has focused heavily on the intersection of traditional finance and decentralized technology, particularly through its RWA platform, Reality. By providing the infrastructure for tokenizing real-world assets, Bitget aims to improve capital efficiency and liquidity for retail and institutional investors alike.

The exchange has maintained a high profile in the fintech sector, with 133 stories documented by FF News covering its various technological milestones and partnerships. Its operational model increasingly emphasizes transparency and institutional-grade security, often collaborating with external custodians and data providers to bridge the gap between the crypto-native world and regulated financial markets. The use of an Alpaca omnibus account for the rToken Stock Transfer highlights this reliance on established brokerage infrastructure to facilitate the movement of regulated securities into a digital asset environment. Gracy Chen, who serves as CEO at Bitget, has been a central figure in articulating the exchange's shift toward becoming a comprehensive financial hub.

What FF News has reported before

FF News has tracked Bitget’s aggressive push into institutional services and market data integration throughout late 2026. On September 28, 2026, the publication covered how Sygnum and Bitget Launch Bank-Grade Off-Exchange Custody for Institutional Traders, a move aimed at reducing counterparty risk. This followed a report on September 17, 2026, regarding how Bitget Boosts Transparency with Expanded Proof of Reserves for 20+ Major Assets, reinforcing its commitment to verifiable solvency.

The exchange’s focus on traditional equity markets was further evidenced when Bitget Became the First Crypto Exchange to Integrate Official Nasdaq Market Data on September 10, 2026. Additionally, FF News reported on Bitget’s innovation in the derivatives space on September 8, 2026, when Bitget Launched Industry-First AI Compute Perpetuals for NVIDIA H100 and B200 GPUs, demonstrating a strategy of turning non-traditional resources into tradable financial instruments.

What this means

This announcement moves the needle for the RWA sector by shifting the focus from asset "purchase" to asset "migration." By allowing users to port existing wealth from traditional brokers into a crypto ecosystem, Bitget is directly challenging the custody dominance of legacy firms like Charles Schwab or Robinhood. The ability to use blue-chip US stocks as collateral for crypto-native lending or margin trading creates a level of capital utility that traditional brokerages currently struggle to match. However, this "in-kind" tokenization model is likely to attract intense regulatory scrutiny regarding the legal status of rTokens versus the underlying securities, raising questions about how cross-border jurisdictions will treat these hybrid assets.
