Plus500 has conditionally agreed to acquire Guru, a regulated Brazilian broker-dealer, marking a significant escalation of its Latin American expansion. By securing local regulatory licenses and a direct presence in Brazil’s retail trading market, the fintech group is positioning itself to offer a broader multi-asset suite beyond its existing regional B2B partnerships.

What was announced

Plus500 is acquiring full ownership of Guru Corretora de Títulos e Valores Mobiliários Ltda (“Guru”), a firm regulated by both the Central Bank of Brazil (BCB) and the Securities and Exchange Commission of Brazil (CVM). This move provides Plus500 with a direct operational footprint in Brazil, the largest economy in Latin America, following its recent entry into the Colombian market.

The acquisition is designed to integrate Guru’s local regulatory framework and expertise with Plus500’s proprietary technology. This will enable the group to expand its regional product offering to include Brazilian stocks, futures, options, and fixed income securities. Furthermore, the deal supports Plus500’s wider ambition of providing Latin American customers with access to US derivatives markets. Powered by its proprietary technology, Plus500 will also continue to pursue additional growth avenues across the region, both organically and inorganically.

Financially, Plus500 intends to fund the transaction entirely through its existing cash resources, which stood at over $860 million as of 30 June 2026. The consideration will be payable upon completion, which remains subject to customary regulatory approvals and standard closing conditions. This deal follows closely on the heels of another strategic move; it is Plus500’s second acquisition in approximately one week, coming shortly after the group announced its purchase of Hedge in the United States. The transaction also builds upon Plus500’s existing B2B partnership with Nelogica.

"Brazil is one of the world’s most attractive trading markets, and acquiring Guru gives us the licence, the experienced local team and the regulatory framework to thrive. By combining our proprietary technology and multi-asset trading expertise with our recently announced Nelogica partnership, we can now offer a far broader range of products, including access to US derivatives. This is another clear step in our value creation strategy to deepen our offering and reach new markets."

The companies involved

Plus500 is a global multi-asset fintech group that develops and operates proprietary technology-based trading platforms. The company provides a range of trading products including Over-the-Counter (OTC) instruments—specifically Contracts for Difference (CFDs)—as well as share dealing, futures, and options on futures. The group maintains an extensive regulatory footprint with licenses in the United Kingdom, Australia, Cyprus, Israel, New Zealand, South Africa, Singapore, the United States, Japan, and several other jurisdictions. Its OTC portfolio includes more than 2,500 financial instruments across equities, indices, commodities, and cryptocurrencies, serving customers in over 60 countries.

Guru Corretora de Títulos e Valores Mobiliários Ltda is a specialized securities brokerage firm based in Brazil. As a regulated entity under the BCB and CVM, it provides the necessary legal and operational infrastructure to facilitate trades within the Brazilian financial markets. The acquisition also intersects with Plus500’s relationship with Nelogica, a provider of trading technology in Latin America. Nelogica currently partners with Plus500 on a B2B basis, supporting the group’s existing efforts to penetrate the South American retail and professional trading sectors.

What FF News has reported before

FF News has closely followed Plus500’s aggressive expansion and strong financial performance throughout 2026. In October, the group announced the Plus500 to Launch US Trading 'Super-App' Following Acquisition of SEC-Regulated Hedge, a move that significantly bolstered its presence in the North American securities market. This followed a period of high liquidity, as seen when Plus500 Reports Record H1 2026 Results with $182.5m Shareholder Returns.

The company has also been active in the B2B space, as Plus500 Powers Wealthsimple’s US Futures Launch in Major B2B Infrastructure Expansion. Additionally, the firm has explored niche markets, which we covered when Plus500 Disrupts US Prediction Markets with New CFTC-Regulated Sports Event Contracts earlier this year.

What this means

This acquisition signals a shift in the Latin American fintech landscape, where global players are increasingly moving from partnership models to direct ownership to bypass local barriers to entry. By acquiring a regulated broker-dealer, Plus500 is effectively buying a "regulatory moat" in Brazil, a market notorious for its complex compliance requirements. This puts significant pressure on local Brazilian brokerages that have traditionally relied on domestic dominance. The move also highlights a broader industry trend of multi-asset consolidation; firms are no longer content with just FX or CFDs, but are racing to provide a "one-stop-shop" including local equities and international derivatives to retain high-value retail traders.
