Clear Markets and N3XT have integrated to allow institutional traders to pledge U.S. Dollar deposits held at a regulated bank as collateral for 24/7 derivatives trading. This partnership addresses the critical need for round-the-clock dollar infrastructure, enabling real-time margin management for digital assets and crypto derivatives without requiring firms to move funds from independent custody.

What was announced

N3XT, a Wyoming-chartered U.S. bank, has joined the Collateralizer® network as a custodian for U.S. Dollar deposits. Simultaneously, Clear Markets has opened an account with N3XT to facilitate this integration. This arrangement marks a significant shift in how institutional collateral is handled, allowing firms to pledge USD held at N3XT to secure 24/7 transactions. These transactions include forwards, options, and swaps traded on the Clear Markets Swap Execution Facility (CMSEF), as well as providing funding for third-party exchanges and security for borrowing.

The CMSEF is a CFTC-regulated platform designed for institutional digital-asset and crypto derivatives trading, utilizing a single global order book. Clear Markets’ proprietary Collateralizer® service acts as the connective tissue, linking independent bank custodians to manage margin and collateral workflows. Under this model, Clear Markets provides the underlying technology for collateral management but does not take custody of client funds. Instead, N3XT provides cash custody and account-control agreements, utilizing programmable payments that move between N3XT accounts at any time.

This technical pairing allows institutions to meet both initial and variation margin calls as portfolio values fluctuate, even during weekend or overnight hours when traditional banking rails are typically closed. By keeping dollars at an independent, regulated bank custodian while they are pledged as collateral, the system aims to streamline regulated swap execution and cash custody on digital rails.

"Capital markets are moving toward an increasingly 24/7 environment, and institutions need dollar infrastructure that can move instantly and with the markets,"

Jeffrey Wallis, Chief Executive Officer and President of N3XT.

The companies involved

N3XT is a fully reserved, Wyoming-chartered U.S. bank that specializes in providing the financial infrastructure required for modern, always-on markets. The bank has positioned itself as a bridge between traditional finance and the digital asset space, focusing on programmable payments and 24/7 dollar rails. By operating as a regulated bank that supports on-chain and digital-asset trading, N3XT provides the legal and technical framework necessary for institutions to move capital with the same speed as the markets they trade in.

Clear Markets is a fintech firm that operates the Clear Markets Swap Execution Facility (CMSEF), which is regulated by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC). The company provides the infrastructure for institutional trading of digital assets and crypto derivatives. Its proprietary Collateralizer® network is a multi-custodian platform designed to separate the execution of trades from the custody of collateral. This "multi-custodian" approach is intended to reduce counterparty risk by ensuring that margin remains with independent, regulated banking institutions rather than being held by the exchange or execution facility itself.

What FF News has reported before

FF News has closely followed N3XT’s efforts to modernize institutional banking infrastructure. In July 2026, the publication covered how N3XT Launches MCP to Bridge the Gap Between AI Agents and Live Banking Data, highlighting the bank's focus on integrating emerging technologies with regulated finance. This was followed in August by the report that N3XT Launches First USD Deposit Tokens to Break Down Closed-Loop Banking Walls, a move aimed at increasing liquidity and interoperability. Most recently, in September 2026, FF News reported that N3XT and Liminal Prime Launch 24/7 Programmable USD Banking for Institutional Markets, further establishing the bank's role in the 24/7 liquidity space.

What this means

This partnership highlights the growing friction between 24/7 digital asset markets and the legacy "T+X" settlement cycles of traditional banking. As institutional appetite for crypto derivatives grows, the industry is moving away from the "black box" exchange models that contributed to previous market failures. By utilizing a CFTC-regulated execution facility alongside a Wyoming-chartered bank, this model places significant pressure on traditional prime brokers and custodians who cannot yet support weekend margin calls. The move toward "programmable collateral" suggests that the next phase of market competition will be won by those who can provide the most capital-efficient, real-time infrastructure for regulated trading.
