Press Release: Formance Launches Kraken Pro Connector to Streamline Crypto and Fiat Ledger Reconciliation | Featured Image by FF News

Formance has launched a new Kraken Pro connector, integrating exchange data directly into its open-source ledger infrastructure. For fintech and treasury teams, this bridge eliminates the manual reconciliation of crypto exchange activity against traditional banking records, providing a unified, real-time view of assets and liabilities across fragmented financial ecosystems.

What was announced

The new Kraken Pro connector brings accounts, balances, orders, and conversions into the Formance platform. This allows financial operations teams to reconcile exchange activity alongside bank transfers, custody balances, and internal movements within a single ledger. Traditionally, teams holding assets on Kraken Pro have had to maintain dual records—their own internal ledger and Kraken’s—often requiring manual CSV exports and matching of fills and conversions. This manual process typically scales poorly with trading volume and complicates audit trails.

The connector uses a standardized data model and API to pull exchange data into existing reconciliation workflows. Each Kraken Pro account maps to a specific Formance account, allowing organizations with multiple accounts to keep ledger entries distinct. The system syncs balances for all fiat and crypto assets on a schedule. Orders are imported with side, quantity, price, and fee details. Conversions, such as USD to USDC, are recorded as two distinct movements to ensure transparency, rather than a single entry that hides the underlying trade.

Crucially, Formance maintains native precision for all assets; for example, Ethereum retains its 18 decimal places while USD maintains two, preventing rounding errors during the ledgering process. The connector is currently read-only, requiring a read-only API key and IP whitelisting for setup. It joins existing connectors for Fireblocks and Coinbase Prime within the Formance Connectivity module, allowing teams already using those services to add Kraken Pro without altering their existing ledger structure.

"The Kraken Pro connector removes that step by pulling exchange data into Formance through a standardized data model and API, where it runs through the same reconciliation workflows as data from every other connected provider."

Formance

The companies involved

Formance is a fintech infrastructure provider that builds open-source ledger solutions designed for payments and financial operations teams. The company specializes in helping businesses track the flow of money across complex, multi-provider environments. In early 2025, Formance raised $21 million in a Series A funding round to further develop its platform, which focuses on providing a "source of truth" for financial data across diverse payment rails.

Kraken Pro is the professional-grade trading platform offered by Kraken, one of the world’s longest-standing cryptocurrency exchanges. Kraken Pro is designed for institutional and high-volume traders, offering advanced charting, deep liquidity, and a suite of trading tools. The platform has recently sought to capture more institutional demand, including the launch of USD-settled crypto options. As a major player in the digital asset space, Kraken Pro serves as a critical node for companies managing both fiat and cryptocurrency holdings, necessitating robust integration with broader financial management systems and internal ledgers.

What FF News has reported before

FF News has closely tracked the evolution of both companies as they bridge the gap between traditional finance and digital assets. In January 2025, we reported that Formance Raises $21M in Series A Funding Round, a move that signaled growing investor confidence in programmable ledger infrastructure. More recently, in July 2026, we covered Kraken’s expansion of its institutional suite when Kraken Launches USD-Settled Crypto Options to Capture Institutional Demand. These developments highlight a broader trend of institutionalization within the crypto sector, where sophisticated financial tools and rigorous reconciliation are becoming the standard for professional market participants.

What this means

This integration reflects the maturing "middle office" of the crypto-economy. For years, the industry has struggled with the "two-ledger problem," where exchange data lived in a silo separate from corporate banking. By pulling Kraken Pro data into a standardized ledger, Formance is putting pressure on traditional ERP systems that have been slow to adapt to the 18-decimal precision required by crypto assets. The move suggests that the competitive advantage in fintech is shifting away from simple connectivity toward the ability to normalize and reconcile data across disparate financial rails. The industry must now ask whether standalone crypto accounting tools can survive as general-purpose ledger infrastructure begins to absorb their core functionality.
