Coinbase Selects Chainlink as Official Oracle for New Tokenized Stocks on Base
25 August 2026

Coinbase has integrated Chainlink as the official oracle infrastructure for its newly launched Tokenized Stocks on the Base network. This move is critical for fintech professionals as it transforms static digital representations of equities into functional DeFi collateral, allowing for automated lending, borrowing, and 24/7 yield generation using traditional stock market value.
What was announced
Coinbase is utilizing Chainlink Data Feeds to provide continuous, institutional-grade pricing for its suite of tokenized equities. These assets, which include NVDAc (NVIDIA), METAc (Meta), AAPLc (Apple), and GOOGLc (Alphabet), are issued as standard B20 tokens on the Base layer-2 blockchain. By integrating real-time price oracles, these tokens can now be integrated into decentralized exchanges, lending markets, and structured product platforms across the Base ecosystem.
The Tokenized Stocks are real equity securities, with each token backed 1:1 by underlying shares held in regulated custody with Alpaca. This arrangement operates under the Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM) framework. While the tokens are issued onchain to leverage the efficiency of decentralized finance, they remain available only to users in eligible jurisdictions outside of the United States. The integration aims to address a specific bottleneck in the Real-World Asset (RWA) sector; while tokenized equities reached a record $2.3 billion by mid-July 2026, their utility has historically been restricted to simple transfers. The addition of Chainlink’s infrastructure enables advanced collateral management and financial primitives that were previously unavailable for these assets.
"Tokenized assets only reach their full potential when the broader ecosystem can build with them across DeFi. We're excited to see Coinbase select Chainlink as its official oracle infrastructure for Coinbase Tokenized Stocks. With Chainlink, Coinbase leverages the secure, reliable pricing data required to unlock the utility and distribution of tokenized stocks across DeFi, while accelerating the convergence of TradFi and DeFi."

The companies involved
Coinbase is the largest publicly traded digital asset exchange in the United States and serves as the primary gateway for institutional and retail crypto adoption. The company has expanded its reach into infrastructure through the development of Base, an Ethereum layer-2 network designed to bring decentralized applications to its massive user base. Base has quickly emerged as a significant hub for DeFi activity and the deployment of real-world assets.
Chainlink is the industry-standard decentralized computing platform, providing the "oracle" technology necessary to connect blockchains with external data, such as stock prices or weather reports. Chainlink Labs is the development team behind the protocol, focusing on the secure movement of data and value across the multi-chain ecosystem. Alpaca, the custodian for the underlying shares, is a modern brokerage platform that provides the regulatory and technical bridge to traditional equity markets. The Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM) acts as the international financial centre and regulator, providing the legal framework that allows these tokenized securities to operate with institutional oversight.
What FF News has reported before
FF News has closely monitored the rapid expansion of the RWA sector on the Base network. We recently covered the initial launch of these assets in Coinbase Launches Tokenized Stocks on Base: Apple and NVIDIA Shares Move Onchain. This trend of moving traditional financial instruments into the DeFi space is gaining momentum across the industry, as seen in our report on Dinari Launches First Tokenized U.S. Stocks for Self-Custody Trading via USDC Partnership. Additionally, the infrastructure supporting these assets is becoming more sophisticated, a topic we explored regarding Sumsub and Caliber Launch Reusable On-Chain Identity for Tokenized Real Estate and the consumer-facing side in Tria Integrates Robinhood Chain to Enable Real-World Asset Spending via Tria Card.
What this means
This announcement moves the needle by solving the "silo" problem that has plagued tokenized assets. Until now, a tokenized stock was often just a digital certificate; by adding Chainlink oracles, Coinbase is effectively turning these tokens into "smart" collateral. This puts significant pressure on traditional brokerage firms and legacy custodians who cannot offer 24/7 liquidity or cross-platform composability. The industry must now grapple with the reality of "always-on" equity markets. A major open question remains regarding how regulators in restricted jurisdictions will respond as these composable assets become more deeply integrated into global, permissionless DeFi protocols, potentially blurring the lines of geographic compliance.
