Advent International has established a physical presence in the Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM), marking a significant expansion of its private equity operations into the Middle East. For fintech and investment professionals, this move signals the intensifying competition among global private equity giants to secure local capital and identify high-growth opportunities within the Gulf’s maturing financial ecosystem.

What was announced

Advent International has officially opened its new office in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates. Located within the ADGM international financial centre, the office serves as a strategic hub to deepen relationships with Middle Eastern institutional investors and provide localized support for the firm’s portfolio companies. This expansion brings Advent’s global footprint to 18 offices across 15 countries.

The new regional base is led by Mehdi Iraqi, Managing Director, Limited Partner Services. Iraqi, who joined the firm in January 2026, brings nearly twenty years of experience in the region, having previously held roles at Carlyle and AMG. The Abu Dhabi launch follows a period of rapid international growth for Advent; the firm opened a Sydney office in July 2024 and a Tokyo office in January 2026. Additionally, Advent recently reinforced its Hong Kong operations as its primary base for Asia Pacific investor engagement, building on more than three decades of activity in that region.

The move is designed to facilitate more direct engagement with long-term partners. By establishing a permanent presence in the UAE, Advent aims to better navigate the local regulatory landscape and explore potential investment opportunities across the Middle East. The office opening was welcomed by leadership at ADGM, who noted that the firm’s arrival reflects the strength of Abu Dhabi’s proposition as a destination for global investment firms operating within a recognized regulatory and legal framework.

"Abu Dhabi is a natural addition to Advent’s global network, alongside our recent openings in Sydney and Tokyo. As a global business, having colleagues based locally enables us to be closer to the institutions and long-term partners that support our work. It also gives us a strong base from which to deepen our engagement over time."

The companies involved

Advent International is one of the world’s largest and most experienced global private equity investors. Since its founding, the firm has focused on international buyouts and strategic investments across diverse sectors. Operating as a global partnership, Advent leverages sector-specific expertise to drive value in its portfolio companies. The firm has a long history of investing in the Asia Pacific region and has recently pivoted toward strengthening its physical presence in key financial hubs like Sydney and Tokyo to complement its long-standing operations in Hong Kong.

The Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM) is the international financial centre located on Al Maryah Island in the UAE’s capital. Established to bolster Abu Dhabi’s status as a global hub for finance and trade, ADGM provides a robust legal and regulatory framework based on English Common Law. It has become a magnet for international financial institutions, wealth managers, and fintech innovators. ADGM’s ecosystem is designed to foster growth through a combination of professional services, a deep talent pool, and a business-friendly environment that bridges the gap between Eastern and Western markets.

What FF News has reported before

The arrival of Advent International in Abu Dhabi follows a surge of institutional interest in the ADGM that FF News has tracked closely. Recently, the region has seen significant activity from diverse financial players, including 3iQ Secures ADGM In-Principal Approval to Expand Digital Asset Solutions in UAE and DK Bank Becomes First Bhutanese Bank to Secure Regulatory Approval in Abu Dhabi's ADGM. Furthermore, global asset managers are increasingly seeking local licenses, as seen when Capital Group Secures ADGM License to Expand Investment Operations in Abu Dhabi. Advent’s move also mirrors its peers; FF News previously reported on how EQT Scales Global Footprint with New Middle East Platform and Abu Dhabi Office.

What this means

The migration of top-tier private equity firms to Abu Dhabi suggests a fundamental shift in how global capital is being managed. It is no longer sufficient for firms like Advent to service Middle Eastern sovereigns and institutional investors from London or New York. The physical presence in ADGM highlights the region's transition from a mere source of capital to a sophisticated financial hub that demands local expertise and proximity. This trend places significant pressure on other global managers who lack a Middle Eastern footprint, potentially forcing a wave of similar office openings as firms compete for the attention of the world’s largest sovereign wealth funds.
